My mother thinks I’m an alcoholic. As a consequence of this belief she mails me random beer related items on occasion. For example, I received Kolsh glasses from Lee Valley last year. The latest beer related item was Steeped Tea Tea-Beer Infusions – an oddity that necessitates tea bags in beer.
This product is available in Orchard Cider, Berry Mania, or Strawberry Fields for a mere $12.99 for enough tea to make tea-beer infusions out of a 12 pack of your favorite lager. To brew tea-beer, simple place a tea bag in a pint of beer for any where longer than five minutes.
So I was completely prepared to hate this product but the honest truth is – it isn’t THAT bad. It’s kind of an interesting concept because it is a way to introduce delicate, lighter and more floral notes into beer. As a concept this might be of interest to home brewers.
The concern I have with this product is that the brew master of a craft beer did not intend the flavors of the tea to be included in the beer and I feel horrible about ‘ruining’ a beer in this manner. Even still, I plan on using all of my tea bags and would hesitantly recommend this product to a very specific and select group of individuals.
